Google Earth กับ Google Maps ต่างกันอย่างไร?

How is Google Earth different from Google Maps?

While both Google Earth and Google Maps use satellite imagery to share geographical information, such as the location of a building or driving directions, Google Earth provides a more powerful, interactive user experience and offers more tools for learning about a location.

The Google Earth experience is one of fast, fluid flight -- zooming and rotating and tilting imagery to view the geographic data you're interested in. You can wind along hairpin turns, view buildings in 3D, and fly to businesses near your favorite location.

Also, Google Earth allows you to easily measure distances and areas, draw lines and shapes, and even import your own data.

ก็คงเรียกว่ามีทั้ง ความเหมือนและความต่างได้ไหมครับ ความเหมือน คือ เป็นข้อมูลที่มาจากภาพถ่ายดาวเทียมเหมือนกัน ส่วนความต่างก็คือในเรื่องการใช้งาน และความสามารถในการใช้งาน maps.google นำภาพถ่ายจากดาวเทียมมาสร้างเป็นแผนที่ให้เราใช้งานผ่านเบราซ์เซอร์ เราสามารถทำการซูม ค้นหาได้แผนที่ สถานที่ต่างๆ ได้ ในขณะที่ earth.google ให้ข้อมูลเหมือนที่มองจากภาพถ่ายดาวเทียมจริงๆ และจะใช้งานผ่านโปรแกรมที่ติดตั้งบนเดสก์ท็อป ซึ่งจะมีความสามารถ และเครื่องมือสนับสนุนการทำงานมากกว่า นอกเหนือจากการค้นหาพิกัด การซูม การหมุน ยังสามารถสร้างภาพสามมิติได้ สามารถวาดภาพ ส่งออกข้อมูล และเพิ่มเติมข้อมูลเข้าไปได้ และคุณสมบัติอื่นๆ อีก (ลองเล่นดูแล้วกันครับ)

ส่วนเรื่องความเก่าของข้อมูลโดยประมาณจะเป็นข้ อมูลเก่า หนึ่ง ถึง สองปี ขึ้นอยู่กับข้อมูลที่ earth.google มีอยู่ แต่ก็จะมีการพยายามอัพเดทข้อมูลให้ใหม่ขึ้นเรื่อยๆ ก็น่าสนใจข้อมูลที่มีการอัพเดทแล้วประมาณ 100 เมือง ซึ่งมีกรุงเทพฯ รวมอยู่ด้วยครับ (ดูเพิ่มเติมที่ http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=71406)
